Indian sport is not synonymous to Cricket. While cricket still remains a religion in the nation, 2016 saw Indians shining in full glory in a vast range of sports beyond cricket! Here are the top sports glories that India scored in 2016:

Medals at Rio Olympics

Yes, compared to many other nations, our double medal win doesn’t seem an impressive stat. But, that does not take anything away from our girls, Sakshi Malik and PV Sindhu, who made India proud with their two medals for Wrestling and Badminton respectively. Dipa Karmakar, of Gymnastics, did not win a medal, but with her Produnova performance, the 23-year-old won a million hearts!

Medals in Paralympics

Our gifted athletics Mariyappan Thangavelu, Devendra Jhajharia, Deepa Malik, and Varun Singh Bhakti got us 1 gold, 2 silvers, and a bronze medal.

The Kabaddi World Champs

India reclaimed its glory in Kabbadi, a game with its origin in our country, by beating Iran and winning the Kabaddi World Cup on 2016!

The silver lining in Junior Chess

The juniors in India sure are shining. Nandhidhaa Pv made India proud by bringing home the silver medal in junior chess championship in 2016.

Numero Uno in ICC Test Cricket Ranking

And finally, Indian cricket team finished the year by holding the top ICC Test Ranking. They remained unbeaten in 18 Test Matches through the year!
